At the age of 33, he gained experience in the ceramics industry in former Manchuria. Upon returning to Japan, he formally apprenticed under Kyoto traditional craftsman Inoue Shunpō from 1945. He established the Narutaki Kiln and became independent in 1955, subsequently relocating to Gojōzaka in 1957 to pursue his pottery.
