Educated in Confucian learning and classical arts, he combined the responsibilities of high office—serving as Osaka Castle Magistrate, Kyoto Deputy, and later as a senior shogunate councilor—with a deep commitment to artistic and literary pursuits. As Kenkensai, he produced refined works in the literati tradition, especially ink paintings of bamboo, a subject he approached with disciplined brushwork, elegant restraint, and a scholarly sensibility. His treatise on bamboo painting, Bokuchiku Hatsumō, reflects both technical mastery and an intellectual approach to art. Makino also excelled in waka poetry and maintained close ties with major cultural circles of Kyoto. His artistic output embodies the cultivated ideals of an Edo-period daimyo: poised, contemplative, and grounded in classical aesthetics.\u003c\/p\u003e","products":[],"url":"https:\/\/reiwaantiques.com\/collections\/kenkensai-unpo-%e4%b9%be%e3%80%85%e6%96%8e%e4%ba%91%e9%b3%b3.oembed","provider":"Reiwa Antiques","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
