歌川芳虎 Utagawa Yoshitora: (act. ca. 1836-1887)
Utagawa Yoshitora was a designer of ukiyo-e Japanese woodblock prints and an illustrator of books and newspapers. He was born in Edo (modern Tokyo), he was the oldest pupil of Utagawa Kuniyoshi who excelled in prints of warriors, kabuki actors, beautiful women, and foreigners (Yokohama-e). By the beginning of the Meiji era (1868-1912), he was one of the most popular painters in Japan.
武蔵坊弁慶 Musashibo Benkei (?-1189)
A monk soldier in the late Heian period. He is said to have met Yoshitsune at the Gojo Bridge and served him until the end. When Yoshitsune was attacked in Koromo River by enemies, Benkei defeated many enemy soldiers one after another, but finally died standing on his knees with his naginata as a staff after being hit by countless arrows.
