Born in Ide Village, Oda District (present-day Ibara City), he studied under the noted Nanga masters Fujii Sodo and Tsuda Hakuin, developing a style deeply rooted in the traditions of Chinese literati painting. During his lifetime, he also traveled extensively through China and the United States, broadening his artistic perspective and deepening his appreciation for classical East Asian aesthetics. He is particularly known for his tranquil landscape paintings, while also producing works featuring bamboo and other traditional literati subjects, all rendered with elegant brushwork and a refined poetic atmosphere. Although not widely known outside his native region, Urabe Kyoshu was part of the vibrant community of local painters who helped preserve and pass down the ideals of Japanese Nanga during the late Meiji and Taisho periods.

with signature 'Keishu' 京洲 and seal 'Yamabe shi' 山部氏 'Keishu' 京洲

Whole dimensions: 20.3" W x 72.1" H / 51.7cm x 183.3cm
Inside dimensions: 13.2" W x 50.5" H / 33.7cm x 128.4cm

Material: Silk
Technique: Handpainted
Roller ends: Bone (DAMAGE)

Weight: 760g including Box

Condition

Antique items have originally crease, stain, damage, and more.
