This artwork depicts the scene of Minamoto no Yoshiie, skilled in waka poetry, passing through Nakoso-no-Seki during his journey to the north after defeating Kiyohara no Takehira in the Gosannen War. Nakoso-no-Seki, along with Shirakawa-no-Seki and Nezugaseki, is renowned as one of the three ancient checkpoints of the Ou region. A classic motif shows Yoshiie on horseback, gazing up at the falling cherry blossoms as he passes through Nakoso-no-Seki. The waka poem composed by Minamoto no Yoshiie while passing through Nakoso-no-Seki is as follows: 'Though I think of Nakoso-no-Seki as the place that halts the wind, still the path is strewn with falling mountain cherry blossoms.'
