His real name was Ogawa Tasaburo. He initially trained as a Buddhist painter and later studied Western-style painting under Asai Chu. After traveling to Europe in 1913, he developed a distinctive artistic style combining Japanese and Western influences. He exhibited with the Nihon Bijutsuin (Japan Art Institute) and became particularly known for his expressive Nanga (literati painting), characterized by spontaneous brushwork, humor, and poetic sensitivity. He was also accomplished in calligraphy, poetry, and illustration. His works reflect a unique blend of traditional Japanese aesthetics and artistic freedom.

with signature 'Senyo' 千甕

Whole dimensions: 27.8" W x 60.1" H / 70.7cm x 132.8cm
Inside dimensions: 20.1" W x 18.1" H / 51.3cm x 46cm

Material: Paper
Technique: Handpainted
Roller ends: Wood

Weight: 820g including Original Box (Tomobako)

Condition

Antique items have originally crease, stain, damage, and more.
