He painted Japanese nature with poetic sentiment in harmony with the Kano school and the Shijo school and pioneered a new aspect of landscape painting. He became Judge of the official exhibition, Professor at Tokyo Art School. He was a leading figure in Japanese-style painting at the Kanten.
