Founder of the Shijo School. He first studied painting under 大西酔月 Onishi Suigetsu (?-1772), but after Shizuki's death, he became a student of 与謝蕪村 Yosa Buson (1716-1784) and learned haikai and painting. He left behind powerful portraits and flower-and-bird paintings in the style of Buson, and many excellent haiga as well. After Buson's death, he studied under 円山応挙 Maruyama Okyo (1733-1795) and turned to realistic painting. He created the Shijo School, which is characterized by its elegant painting style and fusion of Nanga and Maruyama schools. His poetic sketching was light and easy to understand, and became the mainstream of the Kyoto art world.

with signature and seal 'Goshun' 呉春

Whole dimensions: 13.6" W x 47.7" H / 34.6cm x 121.2cm
Inside dimensions: 9" W x 13.7" H / 23cm x 35cm

Material: Silk
Technique: Handpainted
Roller ends: Wood

Weight: 320g including Box

Condition

Antique items have originally crease, stain, damage, and more.
