VA648 鷹の金屏風 Gold Leaf Framed 'Hawk Hunting' Four Panels Folding Screens

I once saw a falconry performance. I was impressed by the sharp and powerful flapping of the hawk's wings as it flew in front of me on the falconer's signal. This folding screen reminds me of the power of the falcon that I felt at that time. The hawks hunting in the season of plum blossoms, irises, peonies, and lilies are vividly depicted.

VA457 青黄赤色の三段紅葉 Three Tiers of Blue-Yellow-Red Autumn Leaves

Can you see the golden lines on this Natsume and the border between the autumn leaves? The motif of this Natsume is “San-dan Momiji” (three-tiered maple leaves). The three-tiered maple leaves can be seen when “the season of autumn leaves” and “the season of snow-capped leaves” coincide. This jujube looks like a cutout of one of the beautiful seasons in Japan.

VA142 籠を背負った犬張子 Inuhariko with a basket on its back

This tea bowl was made in the year of the dog ( Japanese zodiac sign ) in Japan. It is written on the box as “Year of the Dog Tea Bowl 戌歳茶碗”.
There is a picture of Inuhariko on the bowl. Inuhariko is a papier-mâché toy in the shape of a dog. It is cute, isn't it?

VA318 茶短冊箱 Japanese Portable Tea Ceremony Chest Box "Tanzaku Bako" & Tea Utensils Set

A tanzaku box is a long, narrow, vertical box for holding the tea utensils required for tea. It can also be used for Nodate by attaching tanzaku strips to the back of the lid. When attaching tanzaku to the back of the lid, it is best to make a cloth pocket and insert it into the gap. ※Please note that strips of paper and cloth pockets are not included.

RC384 布袋さまと山水 Hotei and Sansui Landscape

Sharp rocky mountains and a boat trying to go out to sea. A hermitage quietly erected. You feel as if you are being led by Hotei-sama, and you are reminded of the eternal time.

雪舟等楊 Sesshu Toyo (1420-1506)
A Zen priest and painter of the Muromachi period (1333-1573). He established the technique of suiboku-ga (ink and wash painting) and perfected landscape painting. He is one of the greatest masters in the history of Japanese art. Born in present-day Okayama Prefecture. He is thought to have studied painting with Shubun, but there are many unknowns. In 1467, at the age of 48, he went to China for two years. In Beijing, he painted murals at the order of the emperor and was widely praised. He was also highly regarded as a Zen monk. His painting style is characterized by crisp lines and a strong compositional structure with depth, which expresses the sincere and strict nature of a Zen monk. His influence on later generations of the Unkoku, Kano, and Hasegawa schools was immense. His disciples include Akizuki Tokan.

RC627 3羽の鶴 Three Cranes

It depicts three cranes walking in the waves on a beach. The artist is unknown, but the style of the painting indicates that it is from the Kano school. The detailed depiction of the cranes makes this a very eye-catching work.

To me, Staff SK, the position of the heads of these three cranes looks like the golden ratio, what do you think?

RC689 鍾馗と虎 Suiboku Ink Shōki (Zhong Kui) and Tiger

This is a picture of Shōki, a god who is said to drive away plague gods and remove evil spirits. I love the cute expression of the tiger carrying Shōki on his back.

狩野栄川院典信 Kano Eisenin Michinobu (1730-1790)
Kano school painter of the mid-Edo period. The eldest son of 狩野栄川古信 Kano Eisen Hisanobu (1696-1731). He was adopted by 狩野受川 Kano Jusen (1715-1731), but when his foster father died prematurely, he succeeded to the Kano family in Kobikicho at the age of 2. He was involved in the production of paintings for the walls of Edo Castle and the Imperial Palace, as well as paintings of folding screens presented from Korea. He was favored by Shogun Yoshimune Tokugawa (1684-1751) and Ieharu (1737-1786), and raised the status of the Kobikicho Kano family to the highest level among shogunate painters (Oku-Eshi). Among his students were 鈴木鄰松 Suzuki Rinsho (1732-1803) and 鳥文斎栄之 Chobunsai Eishi (1756-1829), who later became an ukiyoe artist.

RC456 カワセミと梅 Kingfishers and Plum Blossoms

It is beautiful. That is the only word I can use to describe it. It would be best if you could see it in person, but I am very sorry that I can only show you a picture. This kingfisher is so beautiful that it makes me sigh. The round and cute part is also expressed, so I am sure that bird lovers will nod their heads in sympathy.

沈南蘋 Shin Nanbin (b1682)
A Chinese painter of the Qing dynasty, he lived in Nagasaki for less than two years in 1731 (Kyoho 16), where he introduced the techniques of flower-and-bird painting in a sketchy style. His disciples, including Kumashiro Yuhi, formed the Nanbin school. He had a great influence on Maruyama Okyo, Ito Jakuchu, and other painters of the mid-Edo period.
