Cho Gessho 張月樵

張月樵 Cho Gessho (1765-1832)
Literary painter of the late Edo period. Born in Hikone, the son of a master of tableware in Hikone Castle Town. He studied nanga under Ichikawa Kunkei, then Matsumura Gekkei (Goshun), who gave him the name Gessho. He excelled at flower-and-bird painting and landscape painting.
