堂本印象 Domoto Insho (1891-1975)
After graduating from "Kyoto Municipal School of Arts and Crafts" and "Kyoto Municipal College of Painting", studied under 西山翠嶂 Nishiyama Suisho (1879-1958). He continued to exhibit his works at the Teiten Exhibition, receiving Honorable Mention, Special Mention, and the Imperial Academy of Fine Arts Award, and establishing himself in the art world. He became a professor at Kyoto Municipal College of Painting. After the war, he also worked on abstract paintings. He achieved fame for his style of Western-style painting, which mixed weariness and brightness and brought Japanese and Oriental classics to life in the modern age with a fresh sense of style and brilliant colors. The Domoto Museum of Art is located in Kyoto.
