Imei Shukei 維明周奎

維明周奎 Imei Shukei (1731-1808)
A monk of the Rinzai sect Shōkoku-ji school and a painter active during the mid-to-late Edo period. Born in Takahama, Wakasa Province, he entered Shōkoku-ji temple in Kyoto at a young age and served as its 115th head priest. He studied painting under Ito Jakuchu, leaving behind outstanding works particularly in plum blossom paintings and figure paintings.
