泉川白水 Izumikawa Hakusui (1872-1965)
Haiku poet and nanga artist from Yokote City, Akita Prefecture. He also excelled in tanka poetry and calligraphy. He formed the "Enun Club (Smoke Cloud Club)" of Japanese-style paintings with Mushanokoji Saneatsu and others. Awarded the Prime Minister's Prize. He was also a member of the prefectural government's National Treasure Important Art Investigation Committee. His huge 10-meter-high haiku monument stands in Takanoyu, Sawa City.
