Jiun 慈雲

慈雲 Jiun (1718-1805)
Shingon Buddhist monk of the mid-Edo period. Born in Osaka. A great scholar of Brahma (Sanskrit) studies and a great monk of the late Edo period (1603-1868), he was said to be a master of both learning and virtue. A giant of the early modern Shingon sect, he left a great mark on popular indoctrination. Founder of the Shobo Ritsu.
