Kikuchi Yosai 菊池容斎

菊池容斎 Kikuchi Yosai(1788-1878)
Painter from the late Edo period to the early Meiji period. Studied the Kano and Tosa schools. In his later years, he also took up Western painting techniques and mastered a wide range of Japanese, Chinese, and Western painting styles. He specialized in historical paintings.
