Japanese painter of the late Edo and Meiji periods. He studied the Tosa school of painting under Mori Koga, studied the classics, and became a personal admirer of Tanaka Totsugen, becoming a representative painter of the Meiji Chukyo school of painting. He contributed to the rise of art in the Meiji period.
