Kishi Ryuzan 岸龍山
岸龍山 Kishi Ryuzan (1816-1889)
Japanese painter of the Kishi school, active from the late Edo to Meiji periods. Painted under the painting name Ryuzan, his real name is Shun. Born in Hirose village (Iwakuni, Yamaguchi prefecture). He loved painting from an early age and studied under the painter Kan Korei in Hagi. He later moved to Tokyo and became a pupil of Ganku, the founder of the Kishi school, where he honed his painting skills. After Ganku's death, he worked with Gantai for the Arisugawa family and gained fame as an official painter.
