Miki Suizan 三木翠山
三木翠山 Miki Suizan (1887-1957)
Japanese-style painter and printmaker in Kyoto during the Taisho and Showa eras. Born in Hyogo Prefecture. Studied under 竹内栖鳳 Takeuchi Seiho (1864-1942). 森月城 Mori Getsujo (1887-1961) was his cousin. He was active in official exhibitions such as Bunten and Teiten. Specialized in paintings of beautiful women. In 1952, he went to the U.S. for a little more than a year to hold solo exhibitions of his paintings of beautiful women, and in 1953, the Metropolitan Museum of Art awarded him an honorary lifetime membership.
