Mouri Baiyu 毛利梅友
毛利梅友 Mouri Baiyu (1871-1953)
Born in Nagoya in 1871. His name is Taku-卓, his characters are Shiki-士熙, and his aliases are Hansō-半窓 and Chikuei Sōdō Shujin-竹影草堂主人. He was a native of the Owari clan, and for a time was a devotee of Buddhism, but decided to pursue painting and studied under Yamamoto Baiitsu, Nakabayashi Chikudo, later Mizutani Seikoku and Tanomura Chokunyu. He taught many students and became a member of the Tokai Art Association. He also founded the Japan Central Nanshu Painting Society and became its secretary, and devoted himself to the Chukyo art world.
