小田海僊 Oda Kaisen (1785-1862)
Nanga painter of the late Edo period. Studied under Goshun and mastered the Shijo school. Later studied the masterpieces of the Chinese painters in the Yuan and Ming periods and established his own style of painting. He traveled in Kyushu for five years with Rai Sanyo. Characterized by his neat and clean painting style, he excelled in landscape, flower-and-bird, and portrait paintings.
