尾形洞眠 Ogata Tomin (1839-1895)
The ninth generation of the Ogata family of painters to the Fukuoka domain. The eldest son of Ogata Tanko 尾形探香. Studied painting under his grandfather Dosyo 洞霄. From 1861 (Man'en 2), he began to go by the name Tomin Yosei 洞眠陽晴. Probably at this time, he studied under Toshun Harunobu 洞春陽信 of the Surugadai Kano family. He succeeded to the family in 1866, but in September of the first year of Meiji (1868), the family business was closed and he became the last painter in the Ogata family, which had continued for nine generations since Nakayoshi I.
