Okamoto Toyohiko 岡本豊彦
岡本豊彦 Okamoto Toyohiko (1773-1845)
Painter of the Shijo School in the late Edo period. Born in Kurashiki, Okayama Prefecture. Studied under the nanga painter Kuroda Ryozan in Kurashiki. Later went to Osaka to study under Kuroda Ryozan's master, Fukuhara Gogaku, and mainly painted landscapes. Around 1796 (Kansei 8), he went to Kyoto to study under Goshun of the Shijo school. Specializing in Sansui landscape painting, he became a representative painter of the Shijo School along with Matsumura Keubun. His painting style was friendly and emotional. His students include Shiokawa Bunrin and Shibata Zeshin.
