Shinozaki Shochiku 篠崎小竹
篠崎小竹 Shinozaki Shochiku (1781-1851)
Born in 1781 in Osaka as the second son of a doctor in Bungo Province.
At the age of 9, he entered Shinozaki Mishima's private school, Baikaisha, and learned Kobunjigaku (Classical literature). Mishima had no successor, and at the age of 13, he was adopted as a desired child. However, as the Kansei reforms by the Edo shogunate were underway, he left his adoptive family and went to Edo to study, inspired by Rai Sanyo. He studied under Bito Jishu and became a Shushi scholar under Koga Seiri. Later, he apologized to his adoptive father Mishima and a reconciliation was made, and he took over the Baika Company. The school prospered, and he trained many students.
