Suzuki Kiitsu 鈴木其一

鈴木其一 Suzuki Kiitsu (1796-1858)
Painter of the late Edo period. Studied under Sakai Hoitsu. After Hoitsu's death, he gradually departed from his Hoitsu's style, and his painting style became more bold and innovative with a decorative touch, eliminating the lyrical element from his paintings. He was most noted for his flower-and-bird paintings, but his unique sense of form, in which he pursued the forms of his subjects with clarity, made him unique in the Rin-pa school of painters.
