高橋杏村 Takahashi Kyoson (1804-1868)
Painter of the late Edo period. Born in Kobe-cho, Ogaki City, Gifu Prefecture.
Studied Southern Song painting under Nakabayashi Chikuto in Kyoto and became skilled in landscape painting. He studied calligraphy under Rai Sanyo and excelled in poetry. He formed close friendships with Yanagawa Seigan, Obara Tesshin and others. Later, he opened a private school and taught Chinese classics to many people.
