Tanaka Hakuin 田中柏陰

田中柏陰 Tanaka Hakuin (1866-1934)
Born in Shizuoka. First name Keizaburo. At the age of 17, he went to Kyoto to study under Tanomura Naoiri. He inherited the Nanga style of the Tanomura-Takeda lineage and specialised in dark-coloured landscape painting. He took the name Tanaka Hakuin, opened a painting school, Gazendo, and taught many pupils. He later became a leading figure in the Kansai nanga world. Leading appraiser of the Chikuden lineage.
