Ukita Ikkei 浮田一蕙

浮田一蕙 Ukita Ikkei (1795-1859)
Painter of the Restoration Yamato-e school of the late Edo period. Studied the Tosa school under Tanaka Totsugen. He later studied under Tosa Mitsuzane and mastered the ancient techniques of Japanese painting. His painting style favored classical subjects and he is regarded as a master of the Restoration Yamato-e school, together with his master Tanaka Totsugen and his contemporary Reizei TameChika. He also specialized in waka poetry and calligraphy.
