Utagawa Sadayoshi 歌川貞芳

歌川貞芳 Utagawa Sadayoshi (active 1830-1850)
An ukiyo-e artist active in Osaka and a pupil of the first Utagawa Kunisada; his common name was Higoya Sadashichiro. He used the surname Utagawa and employed numerous art names, including Sadayoshi, Kaishuntei, Baisōen, Kishosai, Kunihyōtei, and Gohyōtei. He resided near Shinsaibashi in Osaka. His active period spanned roughly from 1837 to 1853, during which time he produced actor prints, illustrations for "kompon" (illustrated fiction) and picture books, as well as *surimono* (privately commissioned prints).
