Wada Gozan 和田呉山

和田呉山 Wada Gozan (1800-1870)
Monk and painter of the late Edo period. Born in Osaka in 1800. Studied under Mori Tetsuzan. At the age of 42, he lost his teacher and wife and entered Buddhism, taking the names Gesshin and Kuso. Later became an abbot of Nishigamo Jinkoin Temple in Kyoto. He painted statues of the white-robed Kannon (Goddess of Mercy) and Jizo Bosatsu (Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva) for others.
