米倉斉加年 Yonekura Masakane (1934-2014)
He was an actor and director and was also known as a picture book author. He originally loved to draw, so in addition to his theatrical activities, he began to paint pictures, which he loved, as a way of earning a living. He loved the common touch of Takehisa Yumeji and called himself a "painter" who lived on the streets. His style, with its subtle depiction and satirical venom, is reminiscent of the English painter Beardsley. His illustrations for "Dogra Magra" by Yumeno Kyusaku are well known.
