Yoshimura Horyu 吉村鳳柳

吉村鳳柳 Yoshimura Horyu (1874-1936)
He was a Japanese-style painter active during the Meiji period. He was born in Osaka and studied under 森二鳳 Mori Jiho (1818-1891). He specialized in animal paintings, with raccoon dogs, tigers, monkeys, and deer being his greatest specialties. He is known as a leading figure of the Maruyama School, which developed a realistic style.
