Komuro Suiun 小室翠雲

小室翠雲 Komuro Suiun (1874-1945)
A painter of Southern School art born in Gunma Prefecture. He studied painting under Tazaki Sōun. After Sōun's death, he moved to Tokyo and exhibited at the Southern Song Painting Society and the Japan Art Association, where his talent was recognized. In 1907, upon the establishment of the Bunten exhibition, he formed the Seiha Dōshikai to oppose the Bunten's new school. In 1921, he founded the Japan Southern School Painting Institute with Yano Kyoson and others.
