尾竹越堂 Otake Etsudo (1868-1932)
Also known as Kunikazu (Toyama period), Kunikazu, and Kangetsu (Osaka period). Born in Shirane-cho, Echigo Province (present-day Niigata City, Niigata Prefecture), the eldest son of Otake Kuramatsu, a navy blue shop owner. His real name is Kumataro. It is said that he studied ukiyoe under Utagawa Kunimasa IV in Tokyo when he was a child. He formed the Hakka-kai with his three brothers. They lived in Negishi and were active as the three Otake brothers with their younger brothers Chikuha and Kokan.
