Satomi Unrei 里見雲嶺
里見雲嶺 Satomi Unrei (1849-1928)
Japanese painter active during the Meiji and Taisho periods, born 1849, Hiroshima. His first name was Kumajiro. He first studied the Shijo School under Nakai Tairei and later under Nishiyama Hoen. Unrei's painting style can be described as orthodox of the Shijo School, specialising in landscapes and portraits using traditional painting methods, but also working on a variety of subjects including real landscapes, flowers and birds, and animals. Ema (votive tablet) and ceiling paintings are found at Itsukushima Shrine and other shrines throughout Hiroshima.
