Shosai Ikkei 昇斎一景
昇斎一景 Shosai Ikkei (active 1870-1874)
He is said to have been a pupil of Utagawa Hiroshige. There is also a theory that he was a posthumous name for Utagawa Hirokage. His painting period was short, from 1870 (Meiji 3) to 1874 (Meiji 7), and he is thought to have died young. His style is similar to that of Utagawa Hiroshige III, but while he portrays people, he also accurately captures the customs and atmosphere of the time.
