A Japanese-style painter from Gifu Prefecture. He studied under Kimura Kinshu, learning the painting techniques of the Tosa school, a traditional school of Yamato-e.

The Sixteen Arhats (Juroku Rakan) are the enlightened disciples of the Buddha who attained awakening and were entrusted with protecting the Buddhist teachings after his passing. In Japanese Buddhist art, they are often depicted with distinctive expressions and gestures, symbolizing wisdom, compassion, and spiritual discipline. Paintings of the Sixteen Arhats have long been treasured as symbols of protection, devotion, and the transmission of the Dharma across generations.
