奥谷秋石 Okutani Shuseki (1871-1936)
He studied under 森寛斎 Mori Kansai (1814-1894) and established a robust painting style similar to 川端玉章 Kawabata Gyokusho's, while maintaining his master's emphasis on precise sketching. His style was classic but stable, and he left behind excellent works of landscapes and fishes, etc. He was one of the leading artists of the Kyoto art world during the Meiji, Taisho, and Showa periods.
