木場紅園 Koba Koen (b1950)
A ceramist and tea ceremony ware artist born in Kagoshima Prefecture. He studied under the first-generation Miyagawa Koun, a master craftsman of Kyoto-yaki. In 1982, he established the Kazan Kiln in Kyoto and set up his own studio, specialising in the production of tea ceremony ware, with a particular focus on coloured-glaze pieces.

The tea bowl by Koba Koen of the Kazan Kiln sets irises and a zigzag bridge across a flowing ground, the crisp red, blue, and green overglaze painting standing out against the pale body in a way that reflects his Kyoto‑yaki training under Miyagawa Kōun; the lively brushwork and balanced spacing give the classic motif a fresh clarity, and the seal “Koen” anchors the piece within his long practice of coloured‑glaze tea ware, all kept together with its tomobako.
