瑞邦 Zuiho Japanese art kakejiku kakemono wall hanging scroll / 神武天皇 Emperor Jimmu RF319

神武天皇 Emperor Jimmu:
Emperor Jimmu is traditionally regarded as the first Emperor of Japan and the legendary founder of the Japanese imperial dynasty. According to Japan's ancient chronicles, the Kojiki (712) and Nihon Shoki (720), Emperor Jimmu was a descendant of the sun goddess Amaterasu, one of the most important deities in Shinto mythology. He is said to have led an expedition eastward from Kyushu to the Yamato region, where he established his rule. Traditional Japanese chronology places his accession to the throne in 660 BC. Emperor Jimmu symbolizes the origins of Japan, the continuity of the imperial lineage, and the divine ancestry traditionally associated with the Japanese imperial family. His image has been a popular subject in Japanese historical paintings, particularly during the Meiji period (1868–1912), when imperial history and national identity became prominent artistic themes.
