釈迦三尊 Shakasanzon
This is a form of arrangement commonly found in Buddhist statues and paintings, in which the principal image, Shakyamuni Buddha, is placed in the centre, flanked by attendant deities on either side. In Japan, it is generally believed that the Buddhist teachings are made complete by the arrangement of Manjusri Bodhisattva (symbolising wisdom) on the right, Samantabhadra Bodhisattva (symbolising compassion and practice) on the left, and Shakyamuni Buddha in the centre.
