本来無一物 Honrai Muichimotsu
All things are essentially nothingness.
It is considered to be a simple expression of the state of enlightenment in Zen. It means that when we are born and when we die, we have nothing at all, that we are by nature completely “empty,” and that there is nothing to cling to. The principle of enlightenment is not to rely on concepts in order to attain the truth of things.
