柳沢淇園 Yanagisawa Kien (1703-1758)
He was a samurai and retainer of the Yanagisawa Domain who was active as a literati painter and poet of Chinese-style verse during the mid-Edo period. Along with figures such as 服部南郭 Hattori Nankaku (1683–1759), 祇園南海 Gion Nankai (1676-1751), and 彭城百川 Sakaki Hyakusen (1697-1752), he is hailed as a pioneer of Japanese literati painting. He also adopted the Chinese-style name 柳里恭 Ryurikyo.
