Kamakura Bori is a type of lacquerware made in the Kamakura area.
It originated in the Kamakura period. The characteristic feature of Kamakura-bori is that the carving marks are left on the parts other than the pattern. The technique of sprinkling ink on vermilion lacquer to make it stand out is also used, and the techniques of carving and lacquering have been enhanced over the past 800 years. Kamakura carvings, which add color to daily life, attract visitors to Kamakura.
