This hanging scroll by Toda Eiji (1910–2009) presents a tranquil Japanese garden scene, where a gently rippling pond is framed by moss-covered rocks, lush foliage, and a wooden bridge nestled in the distance. The composition is rendered with soft, muted tones and delicate brushwork, evoking a sense of seasonal stillness and meditative calm. Toda’s sensitivity to natural rhythm and spatial harmony reflects his training under Ikeda Yoson of the Seitōsha and his long-standing involvement with the Nitten exhibition society.
