松本楓湖 Matsumoto Fuko (1840-1923)
Japanese painter of the Meiji and Taisho periods. Born in Ibaraki. Studied under Oki Ichiga, Satake Eikai, and Kikuchi Yosai. He produced numerous illustrations for magazines and had a great influence on the world of illustrations during the Meiji period. Specialized in historical portraits. He was a founding member of the Japan Art Institute, a judge at the Bunten Exhibition, and a member of the Imperial Academy of Fine Arts. His pupils include Hayami Goshu.
