牧野静修 (芝石) Makino Seishu Shiseki (1840-1903)
Japanese painter and calligrapher of the late Edo and Meiji periods. Born in Sakai, Senshu, the son of Sasaki Shunzo, a medical practitioner. His first name was Junzo. He studied medicine under his father and Chinese poetry and writing under Setsusai Morita and Chikugai Fujii. He studied medicine under Murakami Bansetsu, a doctor of the Tottori domain, and married Makino Kentei's adopted daughter, Toko, in 1865. He took the name Makino Seishu. Shiseki excelled in poetry, calligraphy, and painting. In his later years, he taught calligraphy at Tottori First Middle School.
