The restrained ink tones shift from the darker weight of the calligraphy to the softer, more open strokes forming Bodhidharma, giving the scroll a clear contrast between verbal force and visual simplicity; this direct handling suits Hekiun’s approach, in which Daruma is drawn with minimal lines yet unmistakable presence, and the scroll bears the signature and seal ‘Hekiun,’ leaving the figure and inscription to stand together with a quiet, unforced clarity.
