Female nanga artist of the Meiji and Taisho eras. Born in Osaka. Studied under 日根対山 Hine Taizan (1813-1869) in Kyoto, and excelled in flower-and-bird and Sansui landscapes. Shohin's artistic talent attracted attention during the revival of Japanese painting, and she won prizes at numerous expositions and competitions and came to be regarded as one of the leading painters of the Kanto Nanga style. In 1889, she became a professor at the Kazoku Women's School, where she taught the younger generation of painters. She is considered to be one of the twin peaks of women's nanga painters at the time, along with 奥原晴湖 Okuhara Seiko (1837-1913).
