Kokoku (signed “Kokoku dojin” 香國衜人) presents a powerful and contemplative hanging scroll depicting Bodhidharma (Daruma), the legendary founder of Zen Buddhism, rendered with bold yet restrained brushwork on silk. The figure emerges with striking presence, defined by expressive eyes, heavy brows, and a flowing robe executed in confident, abbreviated strokes that embody the spirit of Zen painting—direct, unadorned, and deeply introspective.
