寿老人謂ニ 髑髏云以ニ 我長生の苦しみを 替汝カ早死の楽にや髑髏宣って 永生きのあつさ寒さの 苦しみに死の楽しみをいかてかふへき
The Jurojin says to the skull, "Replace the pain of my long life with the peace of an early death like yours". The skull replies, "How can I exchange the suffering of heat and cold that I experience by living long for the peacefulness of death?
仙厓義梵 Sengai Gibon (1750-1837)
Zen monk and painter of the Kogetsu school of Rinzai Zen Buddhism in the mid-to late-Edo period. Throughout his life, he never flirted with authority and was respected by all classes of people. He produced many Zen paintings with his characteristic sense of humor.
